Emmys 2012 Part Two: Green With Envy

Who said it's not easy being green? At the 2012 Emmys, these leading ladies definitely saw money when choosing their gowns for the awards.  My favorite part was seeing so many hues on the red carpet this year as opposed to the jewel-tone emerald green that was somewhat expected for the new Fall season.
Below, Sofia Vergara became my best-dressed when she turned it out in this sequin Zuhair Murad dress with glam cutouts.  Cutouts are huge trend for the coming seasons, and you can incorporate it into your daily wear in a less-formal way by choosing long-sleeved tops with smaller cutouts.

Other women working the green trend were Juilianne Hough in a Gatsby-inspired mint, Nicole Kidman in an aztec-design modified runway piece with teal sequins, Heidi Klum in a showstopping seafoam flowy dress, and Julianna Margulies in an allover floral print gown.

It's clear that shades of green in various styles can flatter almost any style or skin tone.  Do these Emmys looks inspire you to add a bit of this hue to your wardrobe?

Emmys 2012 Part One: Hemlines & Heels

Award show red carpets have become such an integral part of the celebrations themselves that they've warranted their own pre-show 2-3 hour time slots!  You'll hear no complaints about that from this fashionista!  In part one of our exploration into Emmys fashion, we'll look at the  attention-getting hemlines & heels.

Though many of the gowns paraded down the paparazzi-filled line are unattainable to the everyday woman, elements of each look can easily be integrated into your own style.  This year, I couldn't help but notice the repeated trend of framing gorgeous heels with a ladylike cascading high-low hem.  The high-low trend is not new, however to see it on the red carpet is unexpected in a sea of long, more formal, floor-length gowns.  These dresses gave a more youthful feel and showed off complementing shoes beautifully.  Here are a few examples of this look:

What are your thoughts on the continued high-low hemline and coordinating heels for formal events? For Fall/Winter, is this Fashion Fabulous or Forget It?

Cable Gal: Chunky Knits for Fall/Winter!

The much-anticipated September Issues have all gone out, and Fashion Week in New York and London have brought us amazing new styles to look forward to!  It's clear that chunky cable-knit will be BIG in the coming seasons: literally! It seems the bigger the better when it comes to the cable details on the pieces highlighted at designer collections like Chloe, Tommy Hilfiger, Derek Lam and Rodarte.

There are two key elements to this trend that make it a real must-try: it works for all body types, and the style is a true classic.  Play with cable knits in varying lengths: waist-length knits flatter smaller body types, while longer knits with larger center cables draw attention to the middle of your body, which is slimming! Cable knit is a timeless textile that you can mix with other trends for seasons and years to come.

Whether your style is preppy or punk, it's easy to work this Fall/Winter trend into your wardrobe.  Class it up with a pencil skirt, sparkly stud earrings and pointy-toe heels for a comfy yet chic ensemble.

For an edgier feel, throw on leather leggings and knee-high boots with your favorite knit pullover.  Spike earrings and bracelets will counter the oversized plushness with a touch of cool.

I suggest to work the silhouette by pairing a chunky cable knit with straight-leg pants, an A-line skirt or for a real play on textures, wear a flowy chiffon or tulle skirt underneath.  Add a pair of tights and heels or boots, and the look will be modern and fresh.
